We have had alot of new members join up recently, so in the spirit of community, and talking amongst ourselves - to promote getting to know each other here - for friendship and support with our challenge - hiv. If you don't feel like talking, try to say hi anyway.....?

Hello everyone. I'm Bob, 58, was diagnosed positive in February 1989. I'm in pretty good shape for the shape I'm in. Been on a raft of drug cocktails and quite a bit of supplementation with herbs. The Crixivan/D4T/3TC combo I was on for several years has resulted in some lipo issues, and a heart attack three years ago that gave me a membership in the zipper club. Nevertheless, I exercise regularly, take tai chi and chi kung classes weekly, occasional acupuncture treatments, and keep an optimistic attitude. I retired on disability in 1992, moved to the beautiful northern Shenandoah Valley next to the Blue Ridge, and went back to school studying music. My lover died in 2000 and I've been learning about being alone since then. I'm grateful for every breath I take, and for a great support network, here on Tribe and in the non-digital world as well. And I've got a wonderful canine friend courtesy of Hurricane Katrina. Cheers, blessings to all, and thanks Travis for moderating. Bob

    Hi!

Ron Hudson here from Durham, NC. I am 49 and have been poz since 1985. I founded and manage the International Carnival of Pozitivities, a blog carnival for people living with HIV/AIDS and their allies. I am partnered and very lucky and happy for the past year and a half. I worked for 14 years in the pharmaceutical industry as a clinical computing professional, programming for drugs studies and had a role to play in the development of AZT and many other drugs that we all use.

I have been very lucky to remain relatively healthy, but am facing a number of challenges right now, including starting a completely new 4 drug regiment on Saturday. I have neuropathy, kidney issues and muscle/joint problems, but try to remain happy and in a positive state of mind.

Let me know if you want to know more or if you would like to be added to the mailing list of the ICP. I just need an email address to send you a monthly notice of where the host blog for each month is located.

    Peace to you all.

    Ron

Neal Hughes, I live in the far north of Alabama, on top of a mountain beside a creek. My hobbies include fattening up rescue dogs, gardening, and working on my friends' dissertations and monographs, teaching youth to question authority, hiking and enjoying nature. I have been officially a Latter Day Leper since January of 2005. Oh, I am an educator by profession, an academic librarian, but I am currently freed from the constraints of practice, allowing me to focus currently on research and editing (that is French for "unemployed," I think). I believe in acting silly to children and governmental agents, kindness towards most, and strong cafe con leche as a panacea and that the Socialist Revolution will come one day . . . like a thief in the night! One will be grinding at the mill and be taken .. . oh, that's the Rapture. Never mind.

I'm healthy fellers! [And might even pass for stable emotionally at first glance.]

Dislikes: organ meats; poseurs; Republicans; Fundamentalists; social vertical strata, and boredom.

Hi guys. Newbie here (to the tribe). I live in the mission district of San Francisco, make my living as a nurse and have been positive for 20 years. (Isn't there a medal of some sort of that?) LOL! I use a combination of western medicine, meditation, yoga and supplements, and stress reduction to keep myself healthy. I'm a quiet sort and will chime in when I feel I have something positive and informative to add to the conversations. I am also up for meeting nice guys that are in the area.

I got the + diagnosis in 1987, probably had been positive for a few years before that. Never have had to take any meds, because I never progressed to any state of illness. When at that doorway, you betcha I'd consider all options, ask questions, and do heavy research.
I have many dear friends alive today because of " the cocktail."
Last year I had total bloodwork done for the first time in 7 years, my t-cells were higher, viral load undetectable, and other counts better.
I've done well for a number of reasons. Having worked for years in small radical newspapers in my youth, I knew the bones of asking " who/what/where/why/when in order to get information. As example, early on I read the toxicity effects of AZT, which a doctor in 1989 told me I'd be dead in six months if I was not on a full dose. As I was not "sick", I saw no reason to flood my system with such a bio-toxic attack.
I've also been blessed with good genetics from my mother's branch of the family, which is able to co-exist with conditions which would normally lay others flat. My sister has lupis, and also has royally screwed all medical predictions of survival, and is about to go off to Alaska to fish with her husband all summer. I had an Aunt who lived into her 80's with Crones. We do have a certain intuitive skill of surviving medical hardships which I remember hearing about even as a child, but such skills are highly intuitive and subjective, and If I'd ever try to explain it to a doctor, I'd fear they would want to put me on anti-psychotics.
